Postdoctoral Scientist: Ocean carbon-cycle and tracer modeling
                        (IGBP/OCMIP model comparison project)

Gif-sur-Yvette, France

A Postdoctoral Research Associate is sought in the area of ocean
modeling of the global carbon cycle. Research will focus on analysis
and interpretation of simulations of ocean tracers and the carbon
cycle in 3-D global ocean models. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in
Oceanography or related discipline. Preference will go to those with
experience in geophysical fluid dynamics, marine biogeochemistry, and
ocean tracer studies. Experience with 3-D oceanic or atmospheric
general circulation models is highly desireable.

Work will be carried out within the Carbon-Cycle Studies Group at LSCE
(Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l'Environnement), a mixed
research laboratory of the French CEA and CNRS. This research group,
located near Paris, is composed of about 30 researchers and is
involved in both modeling and measurements concerning the role of the
atmosphere, ocean, and terrestrial biosphere in the global carbon
cycle. Research will be carried out in the framework of the IGBP
project OCMIP (Ocean Carbon-Cycle Model Intercomparison Project)
coordinated by LSCE. OCMIP is an international collaboration to
compare ocean carbon-cycle models, currently involving 13 global ocean
3-D models.

Closing date for applications is June 15, 1998 and work is to begin by
October 1, 1998. The original appointment will be for one year but is
renewable. The OCMIP project is currently funded for the next 3 years.
Applicants should send a resume and the names of three references to
